The Federal Universal Service Charge (FUSC), an FCC-mandated surcharge, will increase from 23.8% to 33.0% effective July 1, 2022. The new rate will reflect on your July bill.
The new FUSC amount is calculated by multiplying the FCC’s universal service contribution factor times your interstate service. This amount will vary depending on the type of telecommunications service you have.
The FUSC is used to partially finance the Universal Service Fund. This fund is used to expand technology to schools, libraries and rural health providers. Many of our local schools have benefited from this fund. It also helps rural telephone companies provide affordable telephone service to all customers, regardless of a sparse or widespread population.
